the mudlarks women

For the first time in their 40-year history, the Brunswick Mudlarks fielded a women’s team in 2025, expanding the club’s roster to five teams. Over the past two years, the football club has grown from three to five squads, including an AFL 7s team and an over-35s reserves side.

Most of the women joining the Mudlarks are brand new to footy - many had never done a training drill or played a match before stepping onto the field! While we do have a few seasoned players, it’s the welcoming, supportive, challenging and fun atmosphere that really draws people in.

Training is all about learning in a fun, encouraging way. We focus on building skills positively, without pressure, and creating strong connections with our teammates from day one. It’s a place where you can challenge yourself, have a laugh, and feel part of something special, whether you’ve played for years or are picking up a footy for the first time.

The team began with full support from the club executive committee - covering costs for the women’s kit, ensuring a safe and inclusive training program alongside the men, and including women directly to the committee. Through this diversity, the club is going from strength to strength!
